Mariano’s Faces Obstacles To Opening New Grocery Stores

Mariano’s Fresh Markets plans to add a new grocery store at Western Ave. and Roscoe street, the former home of a Dominick’s. The building has been vacant since October, but Mariano’s cannot get in the space yet. “We can’t get in until the previous lease [with Dominick's] expires,” said Vivian King, spokeswoman for Mariano’s Fresh Markets. New Jewel-Osco on Southport will open Oct. 21

The new Jewel-Osco will open its new contemporary and “green” store at 3630 N. Southport Avenue on Thursday, Oct. 21. The 62,000-square-foot building will now include a full-service pharmacy and expanded kosher selections, with a separate deli area and Israeli wines.
