With all the spirit and trappings of a championship game pep rally, Audubon Elementary celebrated its big academic win Thursday night: the U.S. Department of Education’s highest honor, the Blue Ribbon Award. More than two hundred parents and students streamed past a pompom wielding phalanx into the auditorium to hear a host of bigwigs praise the Roscoe Village school’s accomplishment. There was a student-created video montage, an avante garde theatrical tribute, and a lots and lots of cheering.
On more than one occasion students chanted “Mr. Price, Mr. Price” to their beloved outgoing principal, who said it was “bittersweet” that Thursday was his last day before taking a promotion as deputy chief of the 41 Ravenswood-Ridge schools. Price cautioned against complacency, urging Audubon’s teachers and parents to commit to excellence for all students in all the years to come.
Here’s a few shots of the celebration.
