Passing by La Sierra (1637 Montrose Ave.) always made me curious. In my mind, I would get around to eating at La Sierra someday, but it never happened. Sunday night, I finally stopped in and I am glad I did.
La Sierra, the 25-year-old Mexican/Ecuadorian restaurant in Ravenswood, is not only delicious, it is reasonably priced. Having a great dinner for two totaling less than 30 bucks, including tip, in Chicago is a godsend. Having the food be delicious, well-prepared and relatively inexpensive is a miracle. Even at the end of the meal, my waitress handed me a coupon for 20% off my next meal of $20 or more. Inexpensive and great tasting!
Although the wait staff, hosts and the only chef were unexpectedly gracious, going to La Sierra is not for fast dining. It was not an in-and-out experience. Although the whole experience was very good, the whole meal took much longer than expected. After eyeing other tables, the scenery, passing waitresses and the décor, I was eager for my food. But, the wait was worth it. My chicken burrito was huge, piping hot and covered in cheese! Eat at La Sierra sooner rather than later.
