If you use Welles Park and you live in the area, the Welles Park Advisory Council could use some of your volunteer time. They’re hoping you’ll stop by their next meeting on Monday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the Welles Park Field House, 2333 W. Sunnyside.
The organization, which meets every two months, “works closely with Welles Park Supervisor Becky Kliber and staff, as well as with community groups and organizations to support the effective functioning of the Park,” according to the Council’s Acting President Sarah Dandelles. More specifically, it helps to plan and organize events in the park like the summer gazebo concert series, the Chicago Folk and Roots Festival, and September’s Circus in the Parks.
The Friends of the Welles Park Playlot is also a subcommittee of the Advisory Council, which together raised $500,000 to build the new playlot opened last spring.
Dandelles says the May 9 meeting will focus on, “Regrouping and gaining new members…so we’ll catch everyone who attends up on the playlot project and our fundraising goals,” and then review planned events for the summer and fall.
