Osterman’s district is just outside of the Center Square area, north of Foster and east of Clark Street, but this sort of thing doesn’t come too often.
Osterman is leaving the Illinois House of Representatives next month to take his newly-won 48th Ward Alderman seat, creating a vacancy until the next election in Fall 2012. Illinois law calls for party committeemen to select a replacement for state legislators until the next regular election. Osterman’s legislative seat covers portions of the 40th, 48th, 49th and 50th wards.
Illinois state legislators are required to live in the district they represent, so check the boundaries (PDF) before you apply.
Democratic Ward Committeemen from those wards will meet in a public meeting Saturday, April 16 at 1:30 p.m. at Loyola University to choose a replacement.
