Vote Tomorrow!

In case you haven’t heard, tomorrow is Election Day in Chicago. Roscoe View Journal readers will have a chance to choose a new Mayor and City Clerk and to reelect our City Treasurer, Stephanie Neely, who is running unopposed.

If you live in the 47th Ward, you’ll have your first chance in 36 years to vote in an alderman not named Eugene Schulter while voters in the 32nd Ward will have a competitive election too.

Turnout is expected to be high, since early voting in many wards has already surpassed that of the 2008 primary election, despite a blizzard and cold snap that tamped down early voting enthusiasm for a whole week.

“We were effectively shut down for two and a half days. [Early voting polls] were open until 5 p.m. on Tuesday, but people stopped showing up by 1 p.m.,” says Board of Elections spokesman Jim Allen. “There was also a week-long period when there was extreme cold. So, it wasn’t just the blizzard, it was also the cold.”

Early voting turnout for wards in Roscoe View were as follows:

  • 32 – 859
  • 44 – 1,648
  • 47 – 2,186

Polls open tomorrow at 6 a.m. and are open until 7 p.m. You can find your polling location here. And don’t forget to read the RVJ coverage of 32th Ward candidates here.
