So he put a ring on it at Christmas. Hope you enjoyed your first couple of weeks of engaged bliss. Because isn’t it amazing how fast people go from “Congratulations!” to “You’re going to wear your grandmother’s veil, right?” Which is totally awesome if your grandmother is a queen and the veil has a tiara attached, but less so if it’s been encased in mothballs for the past 50 years.

The Indie Wed bridal expo, Jan. 28, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m., at the Ravenswood Event Center, 4043 N. Ravenswood, was designed to put some of the fun back into wedding planning. The Third Annual Indie Wed Winter Show and Market will feature more than 100 independent vendors and artisans, ranging from photographers and florists to jewelers and confectioners, with a non-conventional approach to matrimonial events. Think the bridal equivalent of Death Cab for Cutie.

New this year: a series of free workshops (registration required). Learn about eco-chic wedding options, fun moves for your first dance, and more. Food and beer tastings and musical performances are also included with the price of admission, which costs $15 for an individual ticket, $25 for two, or $20 per person at the door.

This is a really nice cake. So glad to see someone else not going with a traditional style cake.
