Tuesday: GRO Hears From The Awesome Foundation

By Mike Fourcher | Friday, July 1, 2011

It’s hard to believe that such an organization exists, but The Awesome Foundation is real and they’ve been attracting some big supporters including a big grant from The Knight Foundation last month. Every month the organization provides $1,000 cash grants to projects aimed at bettering their communities. Started in Boston in 2009, the group has been quickly expanding across the country. On Tuesday, Chris McAvoy, one of the ten trustees of the Chicago Chapter of the Awesome Foundation will speak before the Greater Rockwell Organization’s monthly meeting to explain the concept and how folks can apply.

GRO will also discuss preparations and volunteer opportunities for its Saturday, August 20 GRO block party and cookout, on Leland between Rockwell and Campbell.

Tuesday’s meeting is at 7:30 p.m. at Luther Memorial Church at Wilson and Eastwood.

Unfortunately, a late scheduling conflict meant we didn’t get to hear from Chris this month – we look forward to his awesome presentation at our September meeting (where we will also revisit our awesome neighborhood block party, to be held on August 20)!
