This Week: Work Out For Free

By Mike Fourcher | Tuesday, January 3, 2012

It’s a clever campaign on their part. Every year the Chicago Park District throws open their gyms and pools for free for the first week of January to introduce guilty, holiday enlarged Chicagoans to their facilities. If we like what they’ve got (and the field houses are surprisingly nice), we plunk down $60 for a three-month membership.

A membership provides you access to any of the District’s 71 fitness centers around the city. If you haven’t been, it’s worth checking out some of the local places:

  • Chase Park, 4701 N. Ashland Ave.
  • McFetridge Sports Center, 3843 N. California Ave. (also has an indoor ice skating rink)
  • Welles Park, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave.
