Ravinia is fine for folks who want to schlep their crystal up north and compete for best picnic basket. The rest of us will stick closer to home with our ratty blankets and totes from HarvesTime or Trader Joe’s as we listen to some great local musicians in our neighborhood parks.

Welles Park, 2333 W. Sunnyside Ave., and Ravenswood Manor Park have just announced their free summer concert series, with artists ranging from reggae to bluegrass. Ravenswood Manor Park kicks things off this Friday, June 15, 7 p.m., 4626 N. Manor. Concerts are slated for every other Friday, with a production of Shakespeare’s As You Like It thrown in for good measure. (But not Measure for Measure. Just a little dorky literary humor.) View the complete schedule here.

Welles Park’s weekly concerts take place every Tuesday at the gazebo, starting June 19 at 6:30 p.m. Concerts are rain or shine, held in the field house gym in the event of inclement weather. The lineup is:

June 19: Reggae & Relax (reggae)
June 26: Joel Frankel (kids)

July 3: Louis and the Hunt (indie)
July 10: The Dreamtree Shakers (kids)
July 17: The Steve Schneck Quartet (jazz)
