North Park University’s weather station showed a 92-degree Fahrenheit reading with a 97-degree heat index at 2:30 p.m. today, yet more than 100 people strolled through the Lincoln Square Chamber of Commerce’s second annual block party. Local stores and businesses showed wares while music played by the Giddings Plaza fountain.

While most attendees stayed to the shade, the heat slowed the party down in one expected way: The two-story high inflatable kiddie slide was shut down for two hours to cool off.

The block party runs this Saturday and Sunday, 10 a.m.?5 p.m. Read our write-up on the party here.

The kiddie slide was *too hot*. I saw one kid reach the top and freak out over his burning feet. Then the volunteers wouldn’t let the mom go get the kid because she was over 150 lbs.

Still, many kids found it bearable by simply jumping all the time, and refused to let the slightly confused volunteer monitors spoil their fun.
