The Enterprising Kitchen.

As previously reported, earlier this summer the Metropolitan Planning Council and Chicago Architecture Foundation (CAF) sponsored the “What Makes Your Place Great?“ Contest, showcasing some of Chicago’s most cherished public places. People submitted a photo or video and written description of their favorite off-the-beaten-path place.

A committee will choose three “placemaker” winners, and there will be one people’s choice winner selected via online voting. The Enterprising Kitchen (4426 North Ravenswood) is among the people’s choice finalists.

The Ravenswood-based nonprofit organization empowers low-income women by helping them build a foundation for permanent employment. At The Enterprising Kitchen, the women learn job and life skills and receive personalized training and support services.

To cast a vote, visit the Placemaking website. There are two dozen places from Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana vying for the award. Voting ends Sept. 10, and the winners will be announced Sept. 17. Winners receive free prizes and the chance to be featured on an exclusive CAF tour this fall.
