In early January, Swedish Covenant Hospital broke ground on a new 8-story medical office building that will house up to 30 new doctors’ offices, a surgery center, a pharmacy, a restaurant and 260 new parking spaces.

The 238,000 square foot building on the northeast corner of Foster and California is expected to cost $49.8 million to construct and should open in summer 2012.

“Our patients and our community trust us to provide them with high-quality care and access to state-of-the-art technology in a convenient location,” said Swedish Covenant Hospital CEO Mark Newton.

“This expansion is critical to allowing us to meet their growing needs, and is vital to the hospital’s long-term success.”

The building will be owned and operated by Swedish Covenant while the ambulatory surgery center will be a joint venture between the hospital and groups of doctors.

The building will include new offices for specialties such as orthopedics, pediatrics, neurology, thoracic, podiatry, pain management and urology. Swedish Covenant is also working to obtain a LEED Silver certification for the building.
