State Rep. Ann Williams (D) and State Senate President John Cullerton (D) have scheduled a town hall meeting for next Wednesday, August 24, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bell Elementary School, 3730 N. Oakley Ave. An email notice for the meeting invites constituents to, “Share your thoughts on the issues that affect you and Ann will use your input to more effectively represent the community’s needs and concerns.”

Williams, like most freshman legislators, has few major legislative victories, but is passionate about consumer issues, crime and gun control, issues she dealt with as a member of Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s staff. More policy oriented than the average state legislator, her wonky monthly legislative updates are packed with details on major legislation moving through Springfield (sign up here).

On the other hand, Roscoe View’s state senator is the most powerful member of the State Senate, Ravenswood Manor resident and Senate President John Cullerton. While Cullerton does not put as much emphasis on constituent service as when he was a backbencher, chances are that any questions you might ask him at next Wednesday’s town hall meeting about the budget will be much more accurate than what you’d hear from other legislators. One of the most powerful people in the state, if you have an issue you want to get recognized, Cullerton’s a good place to start.

Cullerton represents all of Lakeview and Roscoe Village. If you live in Roscoe Village or in Lakeview west of Racine, Williams is your state representative. This year’s redistricting moved William’s district further east, taking some of Rep. Sara Feigenholz’ territory.
