St. Matthias Catholic Church and School, 4910 N. Claremont Ave., held their Fourth Annual Wine Stomp yesterday, a judged event where school students are judged 80% on amount of juice and 20% on stomping style. This year’s event was judged by Mrs. Illinois Christine Garcia and Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th). Stompers will receive 55 pounds of grapes and will a minute to stomp per contestant. The Stomp-off winner will get a week’s supply of grape juice, and the title of “Juice King or Queen.”
Yesterday’s Wine Stomp was a prelude to the church’s 12th Annual “Friends of the Grape” Wine Festival and Auction on Sunday from 12:30 to 6:30 p.m. The festival includes 20 local restaurants, tastings of more than 40 different “lots” of wines, a beer garden and live music. All proceeds benefit the St. Matthias School and Parish.
