To make room for the growing student body at St. Matthias Transfiguration Elementary School, 4910 N. Claremont Ave., a new first grade classroom will be added for the 2011-12 school year.
Registration begins in mid-February and names are being taken for waiting lists.
The school has grown by 42 percent in the past six years, said Deb Bukovy, St. Matthias’ Marketing and Admissions Director.
There will also be openings in the two kindergarten classes as the number of students in the each class will increase from 20 in preschool to 25 in Kindergarten, according to Bukovy.
The Roman Catholic school includes classes from preschool to 8th grade. It has 295 students, with room for about thirty more.
The new first-grade classroom will double the number of first graders, from 25 to 50 students.
Although it has already started, registrations are still being accepted for the St. Matthias Enrichment Program for two-year-olds and their caregivers. The classes begin Monday, Jan. 10, and run through March 17. Class topics include Spanish, preschool readiness and music and movement. Details can be found online here.
Interested parents can call the school at (773) 784-0999 or contact Deb Bukovy directly via email.
