Despite a name seemingly designed to produce “Who’s on first”-style confusion – “Where do you want to eat?” “Southport & Irving.” “OK, but where on Southport & Irving?” “Southport & Irving.” – the newest addition to Lakeview’s restaurant scene, taking over Deleece’s former digs at 4002 N. Southport Ave., promises a straightforward neighborhood dining experience.
Geri and Tom Foley, owners of Broadway Cellars, will manage the wine-focused bistro with their trademark emphasis on hospitality and service. Frankie Bocardo, most recently of Ceres’ Table, is on board as chef de cuisine. In addition to dinner seven nights a week, Southport & Irving will offer brunch Friday through Sunday. Daily specials will include $5 Southport cheeseburgers on Mondays and half-price bottles of wine on Thursdays.
Though the menu will change seasonally, signature dinner dishes are expected to include Duck Lasagna and Honey Brined Pork Chops. For brunch, we’ve got our eyes on the Violet Beauregard, a blueberry bonanza of pancakes, syrup and gelato. For Sunday supper, the kitchen will serve up comfort food classics like meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
Opening day for Southport & Irving is planned for April 20. Meet you there. Where? Southport & Irving.
