Though the weather outside was far from frightful–a balmy 60 degrees–families still strolled Roscoe St. this past weekend getting in the holiday spirit with the annual Roscoe Village Winterfest tree lighting sponsored by the Roscoe Village Neighbors.

All along Roscoe, businesses were flush with families taking advantage of the unseasonably warm weather traveling to and from the recently lit community Christmas tree at the corner of Roscoe and Leavitt.

The Roscoe Village Neighbors are also sponsoring a new holiday decorating contest, open to residences and businesses.

“RVN’s goal is to increase the aesthetic appeal of the neighborhood and create a festive and seasonal environment, which will drive more business to the neighborhood and improve the experience for residents and holiday shoppers,” RVN’s website said. “RVN has partnered with the Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce to upgrade the holiday decorations on Roscoe and Belmont Streets, so we are already well on our way to our goal.  We need your help to take it to the next level.”

Prizes will be awarded for first ($150), second ($100) and third ($50) place in both residential and business categories.
