The show is free, they sell booze, there’s good performances and the whole thing is broadcast on the radio: That’s our neighborhood variety show, The Paper Machete.
If you haven’t been yet, you should go.
We’ve written about Christopher Piatt’s off-the-wall personal project a number of times, but if you haven’t been to one of his Saturday 3:00 p.m. shows at the Horseshoe Tavern, 4115 N. Lincoln Ave., you’re missing something special. The entire effort has been powered by the raw creative effort and talents of Piatt and Ali Weiss and Anna Webber, Center Square natives. At first it started as a lark in the back of Ricochet’s Tavern, but moved to the bigger stage at the Horseshoe and then began weekly broadcasts on WBEZ.
They’re on their way to something big folks, and you should see it before they become huge. This week Stuart Dybek and Canasta are headlining and Katie Rich, from the Second City main stage, is also performing.
