Last year was a banner year for the Roscoe Village Chamber of Commerce, as the 1st Annual Burger Fest saw over 25,000 paid attendees in July and September’s Oyster Fest was one of the most successful yet.
“Food is a big driver in the Midwest,” says Mary Markarian, executive director at the chamber.
So big, that in 2011 the Chamber is considering expanding OysterFest by half a day, into Friday night.
“It’s not set in stone, but we’re thinking about it because it is a fun event,” says Markarian.
Even though last year’s Oyster Fest competed with a pair of Dave Matthews Band concerts in Wrigley Field, Markarian considered it a smashing success.
“We had live oysters on the street last year, we had Chesapeake Oysters and Guinness was back. So there was a lot going on.”
Also, for next year’s Burger Fest, held on Belmont Avenue, Foghat and The Smithereens have been signed as headliners. But Markarian expects the food to be the bigger draw since last year’s festival had seven burger vendors.
“People come back for food,” he said. “We felt we could not deliver on the artsy vendors, because it’s so competitive in July for festivals.”
Also, the Chamber is experimenting this year with monthly luncheons for the chamber’s 150 members. The first luncheon will be Monday, Jan. 20 at 11:30 am at the Four Treys, 3333 N. Damen Ave.
Below is a list of the Chamber’s scheduled events for 2011.
