Retro on Roscoe Announces Music Lineup, Charitable Contributions

By Patty Wetli | Wednesday, July 25, 2012

Proceeds from Retro on Roscoe help fund events like the annual Halloween Parade.

A number of the bands on the bill for Retro on Roscoe, Aug. 11-12, clearly take the retro part seriously, offering up tributes to music from the ’70s and ’80s.

Saturday’s headliners include 16 Candles (’80s) and Hairbangers Ball (’80s glam rock); Sunday’s lineup includes Too White Crew (hip hop tribute) and Infinity (formed as a Journey tribute band). Mary Macaroni and Radio Disney are on board to entertain the youngsters; Chicago Samba and Gus Giordano Dance School will get the adults moving.

The festival, main entrance at Roscoe and Damen, runs noon to 10 p.m. both days, with the final acts taking the stage at 8 p.m. (Complete schedule posted below.)

Retro on Roscoe is sponsored by Roscoe Village Neighbors, with a suggested donation of $10. For those wondering what happens to that money, RVN, a non-profit organization, recently released information on contributions to the community that were funded by proceeds from the festival over the past six years.

Schools and libraries, including Audubon Elementary and the Lincoln-Belmont Library, received $205,000; $90,000 went to neighborhood beautification; $60,000 was spent on community events such as movie night, Easter brunch, and the Halloween and Christmas parades. Another $5,000 was donated to Common Pantry, and $10,000 financed the Clean Team, which picks up trash and litter on main streets.

Wash. Rinse. Repeat. How hard would it be to book talented working bands that don’t rely on the same old tired cover songs?
