The Community Policing Office is telling Northcenter residents to be extra careful after receiving a resident’s report of an attack by two gang members. The CAPS office reminds residents to stay aware at night and make sure graffiti is promptly painted over to discourage gang activity.
“I was attacked by two members of the Maniac Latin Disciples on Bernice between Lincoln and Ravenswood last night around 3am. I was in my car, I was not hurt, and the police were able to apprehend them. But it appears unlikely they will be able to charge them with anything other than creating a public disturbance. They were hiding between parked cars, entered the roadway as I drove along Bernice, and walked toward my vehicle, down the middle of the street, in a manner that prevented me from driving forward without hitting them. Once they reached my vehicle they split up, one on each side of my vehicle, at which point I was able to drive away as they beat on my windows. The police officers recommended that, in the future, I use the car’s panic button or lay on the horn to attract attention.”
