St. Matthias Prepares For Catholic Schools Week

By Mike Fourcher | Tuesday, January 24, 2012

As the annual, nation-wide, Catholic Schools Week is nearing, St. Matthias Elementary School, 2310 W. Ainslie St., is preparing in many capacities to embody this year’s theme, “Catholic Schools: Faith, Academics, Service.” The highlights of the week include: a “Saintly Wax Museum,” put on by the 4th grade students; the 6th-8th grade Science Fair; and a Student Council-led, school-wide service project to benefit the families that are served by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, specifically single or low-income mothers.

The week will kick-off at St. Matthias on Sunday, the 29th, with a student-led mass at 10:30 a.m. and open house at the school to follow until 1:00 p.m. St. Matthias would like to extend an invitation to all to come see why they have remained a growing community, providing 125 years of faith development, academic excellence, and service to the neighborhood. Visit the Open House on Sunday. Applications will be accepted for all grade levels.
