A Pet Supplies Plus store will open at 3757 N. Lincoln Ave., next to the Trader Joe’s just north of Addison St., says the owner of the property.

They will open [in] either December or early next year,” said Washington Properties Principal Executive, Jeff Gumbiner. “The store will be Pet Supplies Plus, part of a number of stores.”

The Michigan-based discount pet supply chain already has at least eleven stores in Illinois, but all are located in the far western suburbs or in Southern Illinois with one nearby on Addison and Elston Avenues.

The storefront has been empty since Crate & Barrel closed its pilot CB2 store in January 2010.

Uh, what?  There’s one on Elston just north of Addison.

You got me there. I consulted their company website, but not Google Maps. I’ve never noticed the Elston store before. Fixed.

Wow, where will people park?? Though this is closer for me, I plan to stay a patron of a wonderful locally owned and conscious pet store, Ruff Haus pets! Zulu is also great and a Paw’s World and SP2… the neighborhood really doesn’t need a chain pet store with such fantastic choices.

This is great news. I go to the Elston store, but this will be much more accessible via the Lincoln bus.

Thanks, Sarah.  It gets harder and harder to keep small businesses running when the city allows more and more chains into the area.
