Yesterday politicians, community members, and staff of the Old Town School of Folk Music gathered to break ground on the new Old Town School facility, the first new construction by the School in its 53-year history.

Ald. Eugene Schulter (47th), State Senators John Cullerton and Heather Steans, Representatives John Fritchey, Greg Harris, and Mike Quigley, and First Midwest Bank President/CEO Michael Scudder joined Old Town School Executive Director Bau Graves in donning hard hats and shoveling dirt on a pile to mark the beginning of construction. A group of young musicians, The Young Stracke All-Stars, provided celebratory music.

The expansion project is expected to create 250 jobs in Lincoln Square.
