The Tiny Lounge on Levitt and Lincoln Avenue was packed last night for the Northcenter Neighborhood Association‘s launch party. There were, “about 55 people, but people have been coming in and out all night,” according to the new organization’s treasurer, Don Horvath. The jubalent crowd of local activists, friends and people looking to meet their neighbors hoisted cocktails to kick off the new community organization and get to know one another.
Much more organized than most new community groups, the new Association already has a full board of directors, legal status, a sophisticated web site and sharp flyers with a professional-looking logo. Also unlike many new community groups, the organization does not have a specific goal or complaint they are organizing around. “We just think this is a good time to get organized,” said board member Christine Barrett. “We’re trying to figure out what our priorities should be.”
The Association already has it’s next event on the books: A block captains’ meeting on Monday, March 8 at 7:00 pm at Epiphany UCC, 2008 W. Bradley. Interested people should contact Monica Drane at (773) 472-5810 for more details.
