Seems like a lifetime ago that we were celebrating Ribfest and the start of summer. Now here we are back in Northcenter, bookending the season with North Side Summerfest.
The main attraction: hot dogs.
Local restaurants including Sola, Mrs. Murphy & Sons Irish Bistro, and Chubby Wiener will be serving up their finest encased meats, competing for fan favorite. An amateur hot dog eating contest, set for 2 p.m. on Sunday, is guaranteed to engross and gross out. Last year’s champ, Taylor Butz, downed 12 dogs in 8 minutes; 50 more and he could hang with the pros.
Music headliners include the popular tribute and cover bands 16 Candles, Mike and Joe, Trippin’ Billies and Hairbanger’s Ball. Turn out Saturday afternoon to track the career trajectory of a ninth-place finalist from American Idol.
North Side Summerfest runs Aug. 17-19, Lincoln Avenue between Irving Park and Byron. Hours are: Friday, 5-10 p.m.; Saturday, noon-10 p.m.; Sunday, noon-9 p.m.
