The Northcenter Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a new Lincoln Ave. street festival between Irving Park Rd. and Berteau Ave. the weekend of August 20-21. The festival, billed “Northside Summerfest” will have a hot dog theme, have two music stages and be operated by Star Events.
Chicago Special Events has held a Summerfest event in the Northcenter Town Square space, at 4100 N. Damen Ave., but the space was not large enough for a festival to break even, according to Northcenter Chamber Executive Director Garrett FitzGerald. The new festival will close Lincoln Ave. between Irving Park Rd. and south to Berenice Ave.
Berteau Ave., although Berenice Ave. will allow through traffic across Lincoln Ave. The Chamber recently received permission from Ald. Ameya Pawar (47th) for the street closures. Former Ald. Eugene Schulter (47th) had approved the street closure and Ald. Ameya Pawar approved an additional block for the closure. As the sponsoring organization, the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce will receive compensation from Star Events for the right to operate the event. Star Events manages a number of neighborhood street festivals throughout Chicago, including Retro on Roscoe and Summer on Southport.
