North Side Summerfest This Weekend

By Mike Fourcher | Thursday, August 18, 2011

It’s not new, but this year’s North Side Summerfest is vastly expanded on previous efforts and is expected to be a much bigger draw – and also a block to traffic on Lincoln Avenue.

Running Saturday from Noon to 10:00 p.m. and Sunday from Noon to 9:00 p.m., North Side Summerfest will stretch south on Lincoln Ave. from Irving Park to Byron St. Hosted by the Northcenter Chamber of Commerce and operated by Star Events, it includes the usual array of streetfest bands (many of the same groups seen here, here, here and here) but is trying to break out a bit with a hot dog theme.

Local restaurants Sola, Browntrout and Black Rock will include custom hot dog-centric dishes and the fest will host an amateur hot dog eating contest at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday (in case the rib one wasn’t enough for you). If you want to enter the contest, call (773)665-4682.

This could “break out a bit” by having a total LOCAL theme. Local artists, local farmers, local businesses having BIG specials. A total blow out. I think we all deserve something really special and really unique. Stop dividing everything up and combine them for something spectacular. Just my little two cents. In any case, have fun everyone. That’s the point. :)
