Lincoln Square mothers will have something else to look forward to during Mother’s Day weekend. That’s because the long-awaited new?play lot at Welles Park will receive a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, May 8, at 11 a.m. The nearly $500,000 project took three years to complete and was partly paid for through city and state funding as well as community fundraisers, like last year?s Midnight Circus festival. State Sen. Heather Steans, state Rep. Greg Harris, and Ald. Eugene Schulter will be in attendance.
?This is a real thrill for the community,? said Schulter in a statement. ?So many people have been involved in the process of creating this new play lot. It is going to be a treasured part of our community for years to come.?
During the 70s, Schulter had worked as a janitor at the park before he became alderman of the 47th Ward.
