Neighborhood food drive and block party Saturday

As part of Hunger Action Month, there will be a neighborhood food drive and block party to benefit food pantries in Lincoln Square, North Center and Ravenswood. The event will be at 3350 N. Western on Saturday, September 25, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will include music and children’s activities, including an inflatable bounce house.

The event is coordinated by Alderman Gene Schulter, the Greater Chicago Food Depository, Regency Shopping Centers, the?Common?Food Pantry and Ravenswood Community Services. Hunger Action Month is organized by Feeding America as a way to bring awareness to domestic hunger.

If you can’t make it to the event, you can still help. Ravenswood Community Services Food works from All Saints Episcopal Church at 4550 N. Hermitage. Visit their website for information on volunteering. The Common Food Pantry at 3744 N. Damen is open to accept donations on Mondays and Tuesdays 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Food is distributed Wednesdays 1 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m.

There are plenty of other Hunger Action Month activities, too. On Saturday, October 16, the fourth annual Hunger Rock will hold concerts and other activities 7 to 11 p.m. at 1757 W. Wilson Ave.
