Update: Due to the large number of friends combing the area, Stella was found this morning.

It’s a personal tragedy when a dog goes missing. We know. We’ve experienced it.

While that kind of tragedy is somewhat commonplace in the big city, it is unusual when a dog shop’s mascot dog goes missing. Stella, the pet of Rich Forsythe, and the mascot of Ruff Haus Pets, 4652 N. Rockwell Ave., has been missing from the shop since last night.

Gena Hayward, a friend of Rich’s, emailed us this morning, “Any customers of Ruff Haus know Stella as she is frequently in the store and is the mascot for the store. [Rich] has been updating Facebook with info and sightings, and has placed posters all over the neighborhood…Sightings have her off Leland/Albany moving west around 8:00 pm.”

Rich founded Ruff Haus Pets in 1998, which makes him a bit of a trailblazer for the 4600 N. Rockwell block. Before Ruff Haus, the block was much rougher. Rich was one of the first business owners to show it could be a great spot for pedestrians and businesses.

Anyone with knowledge of Stella’s whereabouts should email richard@ruffhauspets.com or call 773-865-2453 or 773-318-3969.
