In the 2012-13 school year, McPherson Elementary, 4728 N. Wolcott, will join the ranks of CPS schools offering full-day tuition-based preschool for three- and four-year-olds. Parents can preview the program and meet teacher Dawn McCarthy at an open house scheduled for Wednesday, Nov. 30, 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

Like similar programs, McPherson’s is open only to Chicago residents; to be considered for enrollment, children must be at least three but not yet five years old on or before Sept. 1, 2012. An application is required and admittance will be on a first-come, first-served basis. Tuition is $11,100, exclusive of meals. At least 18, but no more than 20 students will be enrolled.

McPherson’s play-based curriculum will emphasize early literacy and a problem-solving approach to mathematics based on real-life situations. Instruction takes place from 8:55 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., but before- and after-school programs are offered from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. McCarthy, a National Board Certified instructor, has been teaching preschool at McPherson for more than 20 years. For more information, email McCarthy or take a look at her class outline.
