Local Ways To Think Outside The Chocolate Box For V-Day

Who are we kidding–we’re not about to turn down a gift of free chocolate. But there are plenty of other ways to celebrate Valentine’s Day, for couples and singles alike, that go beyond hearts and flowers.

The Black Ensemble Theater, 4450 N. Clark St., is presenting a one-night only cabaret, For Lovers Only (And For People Who Love Themselves), Feb. 14, 7:30 p.m. Accompanied by a live, four-piece band, members of the ensemble will perform a variety of famous love songs, including Etta James’ “At Last” and Otis Redding’s “Try a Little Tenderness.” Tickets are $65 per person or $125 per couple; price includes champagne and desserts. When you can’t find a sitter, Rockwell’s Neighborhood Grill, 4632 N. Rockwell Ave. invites you to bring the kids along to enjoy menu specials including their Chocolate Cheesecake with an Oreo Cookie crust and Boulevard Chocolate Ale, actually brewed with chocolate. You can get both for a Valentine’s Day special offer of $12.

The Horner Park gym, 2741 W. Montrose Ave., is open for pick-up volleyball next Tuesday, Feb. 14th from 7:0 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. “What better way to make a ‘Hallmark moment’?” says park volunteer John Lyman. Pickle’s Playroom has a Valentine’s Day special for parents and their toddlers on Tuesday, February 14. Where they are offering $3 off their open play price for all guests wearing either pink or red on Valentines Day.
