Did you ever wonder what Chubby Checker might sound like if he wore lederhosen and an alpine hat? Us neither. Were you ever curious what your dusties collection sounded like if it were replaced by Bavarian love songs so poppy sweet that you’ll think you’re hearing rainbows? Well then we’ve got the band from you, folks.

Northcenter’s very own Pieptone! (yes, the exclamation point is necessary) will be performing live this Sunday, April 3 at Navy Pier’s Crystal Gardens at 2:45 p.m. as part of Navy Pier’s GermanChicagoNow celebration.

Pieptone! performs what is generally known as Schlager music, which is a form of Bavarian pop music. This isn’t your standard oompa-and-lederhosen Mayfest music. Pieptone! plays German chart hits from the pre-British Invasion 1950s and 1960s, completely auf Deutsch.

Early beat music, bossa nova & hully gully get the German pop treatment that will make you shake your tailfeather and think spring. Do not miss these guys. There’s a reason why “Schlager” rhymes with “lager.” Get some of both this Sunday at Navy Pier.

The GermanChicagoNow celebration runs noon to 5 p.m., and it features German dancers and musical groups. Entry is free.
