If you haven’t yet registered to vote in the upcoming March 20 primary election, perhaps because you didn’t know there was an upcoming March 20 primary election, you’re in luck. A voter registration drive is set for Feb. 4, 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. Update your information if you’ve moved or sign up to cast your first vote. Among the registration locations:

  • Lincoln/Belmont Library, 1659 W. Melrose St. Pick up a book, too, while you still can.
  • Dinkel’s Bakery, 3329 N. Lincoln Ave., where doughnuts receive bipartisan support.
  • Jewel-Osco, 2940 N. Ashland Ave.

What’s at stake this primary season? Depends on your party affiliation and where you live. The ballot includes candidates for state senator, state representative, U.S. representative, Cook County state’s attorney, a slew of judicial openings, and more–though a large number of these folks are running unopposed. Then there’s the contest for President of the United States, which is exciting if you’re a Republican but a bit of a snooze on the side of the Democrats, where some guy named Obama is the only option.

In the 32nd Ward, in case you haven’t heard, there’s a real horse race for Democratic Committeeman, between Cook County Commissioner John Fritchey and Ald. Scott Waguespack. Yeah, we didn’t know what committeemen did either, which is why we ran this article.

Alderman Waguespack voted for a 87% increase in water and sewer bills, for renters and homeowners. Alderman Waguespack has closed two police stations in the ward. Alderman Waguespack has raised parking fees and vehicle sticker fees. Democratic Committeeman John Fritchey has cut taxes in County and in the process become a favorite of Toni Preckwinkle and Mike Quigley, who endorsed Fritchey over Waguespack. My donut….I mean my support goes to Fritchey! Wags better get allot of donuts with the money he is taking from taxpayers.
