The new Lincoln Square Athletic Club at 4662 N. Lincoln Ave. is open for a sneak peek this weekend.
The building is still very much under construction, but from the inside it’s starting to look more like an athletic club than a furniture store.
LSAC Director of Membership Helena Williams describes the building as “new within old,” with full service locker rooms, sauna, a climbing cave and bamboo floor workout studios, all in the long-standing brick building.
While the athletic center was originally slated to open this spring, Williams was hesitant to give any time-frame for its opening.
The south edge of the building now comes within feet of the nearby El tracks. From the second floor, the trains pass at eye-level.
The 20-year-old mural on the north side of the building will not be removed. Some parts have changed during construction, and the original artist will fix those gaps once construction is finished.
LSAC declined to allow CSJ take pictures of the interior, but the building is open to tours on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and on Sunday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. For more information email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 773-529-2023
The pre-sale office across the street at 4657 N. Lincoln is open, and pre-sale membership specials continue through April 15.
