A bright spot amidst the dark clouds looming over CPS: Lane Tech College Prep High School, 2501 W. Addison St., was named a National Blue Ribbon School in today’s announcement from the U.S. Department of Education.

Lane Tech was one of two high schools in Illinois to earn the designation (the other was Jones College Prep, also in Chicago), and one of only 47 named nationwide. Lane received the “exemplary high performing” honor, which recognizes a state’s highest performing schools, as measured by state assessments or nationally-normed tests.

The Blue Ribbon award was established in 1982; a recognition ceremony will held for the schools in Washington, D.C., in November.
