Recognizing that the Southport corridor’s commercial activity has lost its vibrancy of years past, the Lakeview Chamber of Commerce is hosting a breakfast and tour of the Southport Ave. commercial corridor this Thursday.
“The city used to do [these tours] through the Department of Planning for people who might be interested,” says Lakeview Chamber Executive Director Heather Way. “They do it more on the South and West Sides for places where there’s opportunity for big development, like strip malls. We thought we’d try it on a smaller scale to see what comes of it.”
The tour will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Mystic Celt, 3443 N. Southport Ave., with a continental breakfast and then a trolley ride through the area.
“We want people to get their heads around that Lakeview is pretty compact. There’s a lot to capitalize on. Everyone will walk away with a complete vacancy database that we’ve compiled working with Realtors,” says Way.
Thursday’s broker tour is one of a number of smaller deliverables called for by the Lakeview Area Master Plan.
