Laura Doherty's latest CD, Kids in the City, earned a Parent's Choice Gold Award.

Just because you’re a parent doesn’t mean your days of hanging out at rock concerts are over. As long as you’re willing to expand your definition of rock concert.

Singer-songwriter Laura Doherty brings her brand of kid-friendly folk-pop to Uncommon Ground, 3800 N. Clark St., Saturday, Jan. 21, 3:00 -4:00 p.m. The free acoustic concert, aimed at the toddler set, will feature the dance tunes “Hula Hoop” and “Rocket Ship,” which we’re assured bears absolutely no resemblance to William Shatner’s classic spoken-word rendition of “Rocket Man.” Doherty, a music teacher in the Wiggleworms program at the Old Town School of Folk Music, will also draw on songs from her award-winning CD, Kids in the City.
