When the following real estate listing crossed the CSJ transom, we did a double take: “Excellent Restaurant/Bar with Brilliant Outdoor Patio in Bustling North Center Neighborhood. Across from Park with Corner Exposure.”
Though the address was posted as “999 N. Confidential St.,” it took us about a nanosecond to crack the code. “Bar,” “patio” and “park” could only add up to Bowman’s Bar & Grill, 2201 W. Montrose (or 4356 N. Leavitt according to the Cook County Assessor).
The property is priced at $359,000, which includes “Business, License/Permit, Equipment, Trade Fixtures, Inventory, Key Money/Good Will.” Potential buyers will inherit a “complete turn-key or bring your own concept.”
In Lincoln Square/Northcenter’s crowded bar and grill scene, Bowman’s, which replaced the former Cafe Florida, is perhaps best known for its tater tots, fishbowl drinks and that “brilliant” patio. (Who wrote the listing, by the way, Keira Knightley?) A recent change in management earned mixed reviews, suggesting patrons might welcome a fresh approach.
Management did not respond to CSJ‘s request for comment.
