The Chicago Department of Transportation (CDOT) is proposing to reroute Elston Avenue so that it no longer creates a six-way intersection at Fullerton and Damen and relieves one of Chicago’s most traffic choke points. If you’re interested in learning more about the plans, and would like to submit a comment, CDOT, in conjunction with Ald. Scott Waguespack (32nd), is hosting a informational session from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. in the Bucktown-Wicker Park Library, 1701 N. Milwaukee Ave.
The information session will be different from most. Rather than making a single presentation, a 30-minute recorded presentation will be shown on a steady loop while exhibits on the planned changes will be displayed. Representatives from CDOT and Ald. Waguespack’s office will also be present to answer questions and to receive comments on the proposed changes.
While government projects are never “set in stone” until the shovels hit the ground, Mayor Richard M. Daley has been pushing CDOT on this project for years. They’ve considered overpasses, underpasses as well as the reroute.
