For the past couple of years, staff at Half Acre has been ordering food from Isla Pilipina, and folks at Isla have been buying beer at Half Acre. Like the moment Reese’s grasped the potential of peanut butter and chocolate, it finally dawned on the two businesses to pair their respective products.

“After getting to know each other, we realized that Half Acre and Isla Pilipina had similar philosophies and interests in music, beer, food and just having a good time,” says Lakhi Siap, Isla’s marketing director. “They loved our food and we loved their beer and thus began an inseparable relationship.”

The two are cementing their ties with a unique beer dinner on Thursday, June 9, 7:00 p.m., at Isla, 2501 W. Lawrence Ave.

“Since this is going to be ours very first beer dinner, Isla wanted to make it special,” Siap says. Isla will be serving six courses of off-menu items created to partner well with beer, with Half Acre choosing which of its brews best complement the dishes.

The menu, featuring the restaurant’s trademark take on Filipino cuisine, will include Sizzling Sisig, chopped pork head served on a sizzling platter with garlic, lemon and peppers, and Rellenong Pusit, which is grilled giant squid stuffed with ground beef and vegetables.

Tickets are $35 per person and seating is limited to 30 people. For reservations, call (773) 829-6761.
