If “Catholic high school” and “hair metal band” don’t seem to go together like peanut butter and chocolate, think again. St. Ben’s High School has got a big show planned this weekend.
St. Benedict’s high school is holding a fundraiser in their gymnasium, and the headliner is a hair metal tribute band called “Hairbanger’s Ball”, scheduled for this Saturday, January 23rd at 6 p.m.
“We’ve been doing it for five years now,” says organizer and Renee Brass. “We’ve had over 500 people for most years—We had Sixteen Candles one year, American English, the Beatles tribute band, another…We really pack it in.”
Maybe you’ve seen Hairbanger’s Ball at Retro on Roscoe or at Durty Nelly’s Pub in Palatine. These guys live the metal life – or at least perform like they do.
The “Blow The Windows Out” fundraiser is to pay for the recently installed new windows in the St. Ben’s gym. They aren’t stained glass, but since the concert is in the gym, you’ll be able to take a close look at what your money is going to while you rock out.
And rock out you will, since the event flyer promises “Ain’t Nothin’ But A Good Time” by Poison, “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard and “Sweet Child O’Mine” by Guns ‘n’ Roses. There will be beer there too, with a cash bar supplied by Goose Island Brewery.
We’re hoping there won’t be any nuns in the gym to make sure we don’t dance too close.
Tickets are $20 in advance and $30 at the door. The event is for 21 and up only. You can purchase tickets at http://www.stbensfundraising.org/
