Green Party candidate Matt Reichel has announced he will challenge Ald. Gene Schulter to be 47th Ward Alderman.

Reichel, who has twice run for the U.S. House seat from the 5th district, said he has obtained the necessary signatures and will file his petition Monday.

Schulter has been alderman since 1975. Other known candidates for 47th Ward alderman include Tom Jacks and Ameya Pawar.

Reichel pulled 3.95 percent of the vote in the Nov. 2 congressional race, losing to Democratic Congressman Mike Quigley. Results from the Chicago Board of Elections show Reichel had 925 votes in the 47th Ward.
