A number of homeowners on Chicago’s North Side have a cleanup job ahead of them after a firebug torched trash cans and other items in alleys at a dozen locations between 11 p.m. Tuesday night and 3 a.m. Wednesday morning.

In an alley behind the 3900 block of North Ravenswood Avenue, the arsonist hit trash carts at two addresses. Hours later, the evidence of the firebug’s work — melted trash carts, burned garbage and missing siding from one garage — was still visible.

Dumpsters and outbuildings were also hit in the following areas:

  • 4000 block of North Damen Avenue
  • 1900 block of West Irving Park Road
  • 1700 block of West Irving Park Road
  • West Irving Park Road and North Wolcott Avenue
  • 4000 block of North Hermitage Avenue
  • 700 block of West Cornelia Avenue
  • North Halsted Street and West Cornelia Avenue
  • 3500 block of North Halsted Street

No one was hurt in any of the fires. The Chicago Fire Department Bomb and Arson Unit is investigating.

Heather, thanks for the heads-up about Claremont. I am in the 3500 block and haven’t noticed anything but will keep my eye open now that I have read this article.
