Most moms and dads out there have gotten “the look.” Waiting in line for your extra large quadruple-shot latte?sweat dripping down your brow, a screaming toddler in one arm and another pulling every juice box and milk carton out of the cooler?you look up in search of salvation, only to be met with disapproving, “what-would-possess-you-to-bring-those-kids-to-my-coffee-haven” looks.?At Northcenter’s Family Grounds Cafe (3652 N. Lincoln Ave.), your little ones are not only welcomed, but the space has been designed with them in mind.
Run by husband and wife team John and Brady TenBrink, the former auto body garage is now a 3,000 square foot coffee shop and play palace. Half of the space is dedicated to the mamas and the dadas (there’s free WiFi and free parking to boot), while the adjoining 1,500 square feet (accessible for a fee) boasts an infant-only crawl zone, playhouse, pretend marketplace, performance stage, mini basketball court, train table, construction zone, and an arts-and-crafts station.?Parents can join in for the total family experience or watch from the cafe as they sip their well-deserved lattes. Family Grounds Cafe playspace monitors are available to assist and guide children in activities like story time and crafts.
The cafe also hosts live music every Saturday morning and additional kids? music performances Monday through Friday. Additionally, an array of classes and events fill out the calendar.?Upcoming events include:
