Election workers at the 47th Ward early voting station in the Wells Park Field House, 2333 W. Sunnyside, opened a polling place without heat since the Field House was without heat. The five judges worked in their parkas as Park District staff were still working to repair the boiler this afternoon.

Early voting polling places opened across Illinois this morning to significantly fewer people than the November 2008 crowds. Polling places in the 40th and 47th Wards were mostly empty this morning with only a smattering of voters.

Election Day is on Tuesday, February 2nd.

Despite competitive local elections for State Representative and County Commissioner, Only 18 people, including this reporter, had voted at the 47th Ward polling place by 1:00 pm today.

Both polling places, Wells Park and the 40th Ward’s Budlong Woods Library early voting polling place, are open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 5pm until January 28th. Polling places are also open on Martin Luther King Day, January 18th, from 9am to 5pm. The Wells Park polling place is also open on Sundays, from 9am to 5pm.

Any registered voter from any part of the city may vote at any early voting polling place.
