Despite reports from the Chicago Reader that Police Superintendent Garry McCarthy plans to eliminate the Chicago Alternative Policing Strategy, CAPS, budget in 2013, scheduled meetings in the 19th and 20th districts are still going to be held, according to CAPS representatives from both districts.
“I haven’t heard anything yet, but [meetings] should be [held] until the end of the year,” said 20th District Sergeant Norman Kwong.
A CAPS representative from the 17th District could not be reached for comment.
According the Chicago Police Department‘s website, there are 39 combines beat meeting remaining for districts 17, 19 and 20. Eleven in the 17th District, 18 in the 19th District and 10 in the 20th District.
