Crime Alert Issued for Arson Suspects

The 19th Police district issued an alert today for suspects who have started at least four fires in city garbage cans in Roscoe Village and Lakeview. The fires have spread to nearby garages and buildings and even one vehicle, but there have been no reported injuries.

Incidents usually occur during the early morning hours. The latest fire happened at 4:28 a.m. Nov. 10 at 1231 W. Addison St., police said. The first fire happened at 4:03 a.m. Oct. 5 at 1306 W. Cornelia Ave., while another was reported Oct. 8 in the 3500 block of N. Oakley Ave., police said. Another was reported about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 6 at 3433 N. Leavitt St.

Police suggest communicating with neighbors and calling police to report any suspicious activity in your alley. Call #311 and Alderman Scott Waguespack’s office to report non-functioning alley lights. If you have any information, contact bomb and arson detectives at 312-736-7619.
